#SixSunday - Virgo (WIP) #15

David Blue as Eli Wallace (SGU)
You all have been lovely. Sam would find the attention both flattering and scary, while secretly loving every minute of it. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment every week. I apologize for not always responding. May I offer photos with this post as penance?

Readers, meet Sam.

I've just about run out of sixes from Virgo. I'm so sorry. I'll be dusting off one of my shelved novels for my next series, but I'll come back to Sam and Delilah when I have more.

Two weeks ago, you met Calla Marcus, who was dressed up as TV heroine "Maggie Aquinas." After that six, she explains to Sam that she was the stunt double on the show. The actress couldn't make it, so the studio called Calla to fill in at GryphonCon. She's there with two other stars from the show. This is how Sam describes Damian and Luke (respectively).

The stick thin vampire towered over his companions on imposing platform shoes. A practicality, Sam realized, as the wicked wings he wore--diaphanous membrane stretched over resin skeleton--grazed the floor. His ashen skin was clad in black leather and chains; the flesh around his mouth was raw and stained, and his orange eyes glowed even from the distance between them.

Ben Foster as Angel (X-Men 3)
Three feet away stood a ripped, white-winged titan with a crew cut, maroon neoprene suit, and intimidating posture. His lip pulled to one side as he spoke, and the vampire burst into an almost girlish giggle, shattering the illusion of evil incarnate.

Ironically, that was when Sam shivered.

    1. Thanks, Scott. I'm about 1/10th done. I'm in the opposite position I'm usually in with novels. I usually know where I want to do thematically, but the setting is empty. This time, the setting is very much in my head but the themes are elusive. For me, this has resulted in six dense and gorgeous chapters butting up against nothing at all.

I just brought in a new character yesterday that changes the game...or at the very least I hope it provides a kickstart.

  4. I think Sam must be very good at reading people . . . the placement of that shiver says more than two paragraphs.

(and dibs on beta, when and if you need one)

    1. Thanks Sarah. I will keep you in mind for beta. Yeah...Sam is very good at reading people. I intend to make it part of the story's conflict later on when it becomes obvious that he's misread someone.

  5. Love your descriptions here! The photos helped, but the writing is so well done that you almost don't even need them to see it in your mind's eye! Love it! Great 6!

  10. Nice description, though I read "imposing" as "composting" the first time through. I think you misspelled it as "imposting."

  11. Gawd, I love that girlish giggle. That's a pitch-perfect dichotomy.

  13. Great contrast between them, and how the angel seems more menacing than the vampire at the end. Why does Sam shiver? Bwahahahaha! Fun six, Wendy. :)

  14. Great descriptions! I do think supernatural beings are more scarely when they do something so unexpected and apparently human.
