This week's post is an introduction to Sam and Delilah from my primary WIP "Virgo." I don't exactly know where it's going to fit in yet, but I do intend to use it somewhere in the first draft. Next week, I'm planning to post part of the first chapter and I hope to stay with that scene for a while.

(And my sincerest apologize for forgetting how to count to six. My Kindergarten teacher would be so ashamed of me. The below excerpt has seven sentences.)
Sam watched Delilah’s hands hover over the vinyl. Turning at thirty-three revolutions per minute, it whispered “hush” as it kissed her skin here and there. She couldn’t hear it. Her headphones canceled noise; nothing short of a wrecking ball coming through the wall could get between her and the beat on which she was focused. Seeing them on her ears took him back a few years, to a night when the tick-tock of a clock could chase away her demons in a minute or so. Even a clicking pen would do in a pinch. Now to get her to a happy place, she needed turntables, a mixer, and time enough to obliterate every thought she ever had…three things they could no longer take for granted.
Some of my personal favorites are Jayel Kaye, sarah Ballance, Krystal Wade, Monica Enderle Pierce, Siobhan Muir, Sarah W., and Pippa Jay.

I really love the quiet mood of this piece. There's a melancholy running through it that draws the reader in, certainly makes me wonder what the urgency is he's speaking of. Great six! Oh, and thanks for stopping by mine and commenting!
ReplyDeleteHmm, very interesting. I'm wondering what Delilah is suffering from and if Sam is willing to stick around for the duration. You've definitely piqued my interest!
ReplyDeleteNice description of both the psychological aspect and habits of the character in a tone that shows the love and care of the narrator. It makes me wonder what has changed between then and now.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting details. Nice share!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely unshelve !!!
ReplyDeleteI like this. Nice introspection. And I feel your pain re the counting to six. I did a 5-sentence entry a few weeks back. We both need refresher courses in math it seems.
ReplyDeleteIntriguing six, look forward to finding out more!
ReplyDeleteVery nice Six -- good description, and very intriguing!
ReplyDeleteDelilah is an intriguing character, who's obviously about to be tangled in an intriguing situation. I definitely want more of this.
ReplyDelete(and thanks for the shout out!)
I like that meditative feel this has, the spinning vinyl, the earphones cancelling out any other noise - a nice way to show someone in their happy state, that moment of being in the groove. Well done! :)
